Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress which dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland from its position on the Castle Rock. The project had many constraints and challenges including the requirement to re-use the existing wiring infrastructure and luminaire positions, in order to eliminate any ground works. The only technology available at the time of the tender that would meet this requirement was Philips Intelli Power, this would allow the existing 3 core cabling to transmit DMX Data to the new RGB ColorReach, ColorGraze and ColorBlast fittings. Using a Pharos LPC to control the lighting installation, Historic Scotland now has the ability to change the colour of the Castle with a touch of a button. Whereas in previous years this would have required a team of men a couple of days to put jells on all of the 120 fixtures. The LED installation has also reduced the overall carbon footprint of the facility considerably, along with the maintenance and running costs.
