Shuttle Street is a bustling street in the historic county of Renfrewshire, Scotland. A nightlife hotspot, Shuttle Street is home to many bars, restaurants, and clubs, providing endless entertainment and dining experiences for residents and visitors to the area.
Renfrewshire Council recognised that the street lighting was no longer of an appropriate design or substantial quality and that it required an upgrade to enhance the atmosphere of the street and promote a vibrant nightlife ambience.
LITE was appointed to provide a full turn-key service for this project, including the design, supply, installation and commission of the exterior lighting scheme. LITE recommended solutions from their market-leading portfolio to meet the design brief for the street lighting, including MaxiLED RGBW luminaires with full remote capabilities.
The new design involved creating canopies of light by linking catenary wires to the buildings on either side of the street. This way the luminaires could be creatively suspended for dynamic displays in an array of colours, giving the illusion of a beautiful night sky or even providing vibrant club lighting above the walkway.
As the buildings along Shuttle Street are of different ages, and heights and have different usages, this presented an installation challenge to the team, particularly as some were lower than the minimum height requirements and others were listed buildings. LITE created custom brackets to resolve this issue, calculating the loads and tension on the wires to protect the building’s infrastructure. They also ensured permission was obtained from the individual building owners to fix the catenary wires to each property. The result is dynamic lighting that can be remotely programmed by the Council to set various lighting programs and colours to celebrate national holidays and awareness days.
